California WOW and a lesson in Thai recycling

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Marian and I decided to re-use some of our plastic bags for grocery shopping today. There happens to be a small mountain of plastic bags under our kitchen counter from previous interns and we didn't want to add to it. We received confused looks from the cashier at the grocery store when we pulled them out and started packing our own groceries. This reaction was topped by a man selling fruit on the side of the road. We handed him a bag to use for the bananas we had just purchased. He looked the bag over, turned to his right and tossed it in the nearby garbage can. He then proceeded to put the bananas in his own bag.

Our new plan to get out of the heat and de-stress while in Bangkok includes a membership to California Wow (a gym). This was a surprisingly long process, but we walked out with a really cheap membership plan. After an hour long orientation and chat with one of the sales reps and then the manager we had a $9000 bhat membership fee down to $3750 for 3 months.

Yoga and fitness classes here we come!

  1. Haha, love the bag story. Kind of scary though.

  2. It's been a struggle to re-use bags, or get across to people that we don't need a bag at all.
